Notebook: Meteors (40); UL Huskies (58);
Meteors opened their second half of the season by hosting UL Huskies. The Huskies had only suffered one loss coming into this game, but Meteors remembered that they had taken them to the final buzzer during the pre-season.
Susan Fogarty got the first score of the game with some smart inside play; this set up the momentum of the game. Loretta Maher, of the Huskies, answered back quickly to give them the lead. Defensive intensity by the Dublin outfit kept them right at the Huskies heels throughout the first quarter.
Racheal Vandrwaal controlled the pace for UL, pushing the ball and going from coast to coast; highlighting the poor defensive transition from Meteors. Rachel Clancy made a couple of open shots andextended the lead to 12 for the visitors. Karen Meany and Susie Doyle had a battle on their hands as they kept fighting for loose balls and rebounds. Rebounds coupled with some nice shooting by Indira Kaljo saw Meteors enter the half trailing by 7.
Meteors came out strong in the third quarter playing with some great intensity and the visitors had to earn every basket. This was not long lived however, as the experienced Michelle Fahy dished out some impressive passes that broke the Meteors defense. UL would go into the fourth up 11 points. This game was far from over and Meteors seemed to believe that as they once again started strong. Vanderwaal exploded to the basket deflating Meteors' hopes time and time again. Vanderwaal, showed the experience gained from playing in the Olympics over the summer.
Clancy made some a couple of big shots for the visitors and the momentum shifted once again, but it was never to be regained by the home team. Final Score UL 58 - 40 Meteors.
